Saori Woven Blanket

Ok, so I've been inconsistent in my blog posts - but not in my creativity!  Sometimes taking pictures, cropping, uploading and then writing about something is difficult when I'm already on to the next thing.  Anyone else ADD about creative and crafty things?!?

This is a photo of a blanket I wove in strips on my rigid heddle loom.  It is woven in the Saori style - no "perfection seeking" on selvages.  Also, you throw in different yarns, loops, bits of yarn & fiber depending on how one feels that day to create something truly expressive.

In this blanket, I was trying to use up the bland beige yarn I had.  It is a 3-strand yarn I created from 3 even more boring beige yarns.  As I was weaving the blanket, I just HAD to liven it up - hence all the odds & ends thrown in.

Since I added so much fun stuff, I still have loads of the boring beige yarn leftover.  I'm donating it to some ladies who work with my husband.  They haven't been looking at it for years...so I hope they create something great with it.

After weaving 4 panels, I laid them out on the floor and kept rearranging until it looked right to me.   I whip stitched the panels together and machine hemmed the edges.  That went rather quickly.

I am getting ready to start on some smaller woven projects - making fabric I can cut and sew into purses.  It's my next adventure.

Until next time...
